Jean-Leon Gerome’s “Pygmalion & Galatea” (1890)

Current Location: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY

FACT OF THE DAY: Shortly after her animation, Galatea had Pygmalion sculpt a small dog, a washer/dryer combo and her own mother (who ended up living with them in the guest room). Things got dicey.
