The Oath of Horatii

Jacques-Louis David‘s “The Oath of Horatii” (1784)

Current Location: Louvre, Paris, France

Jacques-Louis David accomplished in 1784, before the French Revolution, which depicts the Roman salute. It grew to be considered as paradigm of neoclassical art.

Art history lesson of the day from Lee Matthews: “Notice the 3 archways, 3 swords, 3 oaths… theres nothing as a ubiquitous 3. 3= The Holy Trinity (father, son, holy ghost). Art from this period is full of 3’s.”
